What is Rotary? If this is a question you’ve asked or been asked the answer should always include the word service. Our motto is Service Above Self. What does that mean? It means meeting a need – the needs of your community and communities all over the world.
Rotary clubs, like families, come in all different shapes and sizes. But they are all committed to making the world a better place. We are a diverse group of professionals from all walks of life who want to pool our resources, professional expertise, personal passion and time to improving access to quality education, maternal healthcare, clean environments, polio vaccines, healthy food, rural entrepreneurship, potable water and earthquake relief – to name just some of the projects Rotarians are passionate about.
With more than 34,000 clubs representing 1.2 million members worldwide, our service projects are as varied as we are!
The Metropolitan Rotary Club of Eugene has supported chicken coops for families in Nepal, scholarships for rural students in Mexico, an industrial coffee mill for micro-entrepreneurs in Nicaragua, writing workshops for students in our own Whiteaker neighborhood, clean-up teams for the Amazon Creek here in our own town, and a variety of educational and business support throughout five rural communities in Kenya.
Rotary is where new friendships are made with like-minded professionals who aren’t embarrassed to admit they want to change the world. Join us on Tuesday nights at 6 if you’ve been looking for a way to contribute your time and talent to making the world a better place!
